Cockerton Band to celebrate 150 years of musical life.
Cockerton Prize Silver Band of Darlington, County Durham, will give their much anticipated 150th Anniversary Concert on Saturday 20th May 2023.
Conducted by musical director Andy Hunter and featuring guest soloist Richard Marshall, the event promises an opportunity to share an evening of music and memories, while celebrating this historic part of Darlington’s musical heritage.
The concert will take place in the Central Hall of the Dolphin Centre, Horse Market, Darlington, DL1 5RP. Doors open at 7pm with the concert starting at 7.30pm.
The programme will include a wide variety of music to suit all tastes, taken from pivotal moments of the band’s history, as well as cornet solos and features for Richard Marshall. Audiences will also hear the world-premiere of a newly commissioned piece celebrating Cockerton Band’s history, written by local composer and the band’s principal cornet Ian Robinson.
Formed in 1870, Cockerton Prize Silver Band is one of Darlington’s oldest and continuous music groups and the only remaining brass band in the town. The anniversary celebrations were originally planned for 2020 (their 150th year) but had to be put on hold during the pandemic.
Tickets are available in advance from the Dolphin Centre, band members, through the Cockerton Band Facebook Page, or by calling 01325 406000. Some tickets will also be available on the door, but advance booking is recommended.
If you are, or know of, a former member of Cockerton Band then the current group would love to hear from you, particularly if you’d be willing to share your memories in advance.
