Bone-afide are GETZEN artists!
As an ensemble, we strive to push the technical capabilities of the trombone to discover as many different styles, musical ideas and nuances as possible. Our Getzen instruments, like no others, enable us to achieve all of this. Some of us had already played Getzens, and quickly convinced the others to fall in love with them, too. Amazingly, Getzen then made contact with us, and our relationship soon fully formed!
Taking our Getzen Trombones into our professional orchestral and solo careers has given each of us an incredible lift; we have the ability to blend in various sections and styles, whilst performing to a consistently high level. Our first rehearsal on our four Getzens was extremely exciting - we cannot believe how unified our playing is, along with the effortless match of sound, articulation and colour. We are so positive about the future and are unceasingly grateful to Getzen and Edwards for all of their support.
Our first project as Getzen Artists was our Folk and traditionally inspired album, Folkbone. We recorded this album with the amazing World of Sound and had the incomparable Adam Goldsmith producing. We recorded this remarkably demanding set-list during the three hottest days of year, in a church in central London - this certainly tested our physical and mental endurance!
The album idea came to us when we realized that we were all individually interested in diverse genres of folk music, whether it was Scottish, Welsh, Eastern European, Spanish or Argentinian. Out of this we evolved a cross-genre collection of new arrangements, together with two brand-new works by Errollyn Wallen and Dani Howard. Whatever kinds of folk music you are into, Folkbone surely has something for you! We were very pleased with how the sessions went and are itching to hear the end-product - we can’t wait to share it with everyone soon!
So, again, thanks so much to Getzen for their support and sponsorship - we can’t wait for all our future projects! And thanks so much to World of Sound and Adam Goldsmith for their stunning work, patience and generosity. We’d also like to thank all our collaborators: Heledd Fflur Gwynant for joining us on percussion, Patrick Rimes, William Foster and Isobel Daws for their arrangements, and Dani Howard and Errollyn Wallen for their wonderful new compositions, which will hugely benefit the rapidly expanding ‘trombone quartet’ repertoire.
