Lydbrook feature in Lotto Love Story

As bands begin to dust off their carol books to start the Christmas countdown, Lydbrook Band is ahead of the crowd having started carol playing back in October!

Last month, a small group from Lydbrook Band was invited down to the London Film Studios to be part of the EuroMillions Lotto Christmas advert. After around 10 hours of filming in front of a green screen, a 20ft Christmas tree and a crowd of extras in various costumes, the director finally stated, “it’s a wrap” and the Band headed home to Gloucestershire, sworn to secrecy until the advert’s release.

Lydbrook Band is delighted to finally be able to share this exciting news and, last week, performed live at Waterloo Station in London to accompany the official launch of the EuroMillions Lotto Christmas advert.

Just over a week ago, The National Lottery released its Christmas advert telling the first part of their ‘Christmas love story’. Directed by Oscar-winning Tom Hooper, the ad tells of a chance encounter between two people who meet on a train and exchange a phone number on the back of a lottery ticket. The next part of the story is where Lydbrook Band features. As the couple do their best to be reunited with their winning ticket, they are thwarted by a whole host of interruptions including the band marching through the middle of them!

Having filmed the entire day in front of a green screen, the Band was incredibly excited to see the finished advert and is honoured to have been asked to recreate the scenes live at Waterloo for the launch.

Lydbrook Band has been extremely fortunate over the years to obtain grants from Arts Council England, which is partly funded by The National Lottery. These grants have been used to put on several large-scale Proms in the Park events in the grounds of the Speech House Hotel in the Forest of Dean, celebrating occasions including both the Diamond and Platinum Jubilees. These generous grants enabled the Band to bring the enjoyment and accessibility of live music to local communities through supporting new commissions and presenting a wide range of diverse musical genres to thousands of people.

Lydbrook Band is honoured to have been asked by Camelot to feature in their “Lotto Love Story” and is hopeful that it will help bring brass bands into the spotlight alongside raising awareness of the multiple good causes The National Lottery funds. It was a fantastic opportunity, and the Band is incredibly grateful to have been chosen to play its part.
